Get an Active Directory Account

This guide is meant for clinicians and medical residents who have affiliated themselves with Florida International University's Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine who want to get access to the FIU Medical Library.

If you have not already done so, get a person-of-interest Active Directory (AD) account

  What is an AD account?

  • An Active Directory (AD) account (read more about it on the FIU Service Now Knowledge Base) consists of the following...
    • FIU e-mail
    • username (which is the first part of your e-mail)
    • PantherID (a seven-digit number)
    • password (you will get instructions to reset it upon the creation of your account),

  How do you get one?

Once you have an AD account, you can request a library account

  • IMPORTANT: it will take some time to receive your AD account.  Please allow time for HWCOM HR to process your application.
  • You will not automatically receive a Library Account when your AD account is created. Requesting library privileges is an additional step.
  • When you get your AD account, inform HWCOM HR (not the Medical Library) that you want library privileges.
  • Once you inform HWCOM HR, they will send us the necessary information about your AD account so that we, at the Medical Library, can create a separate (i.e., additional) Library Account for you.
  • Upon creating your Library Account, we will e-mail you and send you instructions about how to use the library website.
  • ‚ÄčIf you wish to contact the HR department with more general questions, their main line is 305-348-0621.
  • ‚ÄčAny questions about this process can be addressed to Rebecca Roth, the Medical Library's Clinical Engagement Librarian, at rroth@fiu.edu or 305-348-0680.

Please contact Rebecca Roth at 305-348-0680 or rroth@fiu.edu if any of the above links are broken.

Recover Your Active Directory Account

  • If you have forgotten any of the components of your AD account (FIU e-mail, username, password, and/or PantherID), you can recover them by going to MyFIU and using the recovery option (which appears on the left-hand side of the screen under the yellow log-in option). There you will have options to "Lookup Panther ID", "Reset Password" and "Lookup Username".

Get a OneCard (Optional)

  • If you are an FIU affiliated community-based faculty member or are a medical resident at an FIU affiliated medical site, getting a OneCard will grant you a 14-digit barcode that allows you to physically access the library, check out books, and make interlibrary loan requests.  If you do not get a OneCard, you can still contact the Medical Library and request these services, but they may take longer to fulfill.
  • You can read more about applying for this plastic photo ID card by visiting the OneCard Website
  • Important points: you will not have to pay $10 for the card. (This will be explained by the steps below.)
    • You must first visit the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine's Human Resources office and ask for a signed slip that will enable you to request a OneCard.  Bring this signed slip with you when you got to the OneCard Office.
    • You can find HWCOM's Human Resources office on the 6th floor of Academic Health Center (AHC) 2.  The OneCard Office is located further south in Parking Garage (PG-1). It is on the first floor of the parking garage and behind the Wells Fargo (there is a branch on campus). You can find both of these locations highlighted in red on the map below.
    • You must also bring a photo ID with you when you arrive at the office. Without it, you cannot have your photo taken and a subsequent card issued.
  • Once you have gotten a OneCard, you must tell us that you have done so in order for us to activate your physical access to the library. This will not happen automatically when you receive your OneCard, so be sure to call Duke Ingram, our Access Services Supervisor, at 305-348-9022 or e-mail him at dingram@fiu.edu.

Parking

You have two options when it comes to parking:

  • Metered Parking (read more): you can park in designated visitor spots by using PayByPhone App. Instructions for setting up and using PayByPhone to park on FIU's campus can be found here

OR

  • Virtual Permit (read more): as an FIU person-of-interest, you are eligible for discounted daily or monthly "contractors/vendors" passes. These allow you to park in student spaces which are plentiful. In order to do so, you need to acquaint yourself with your Parking Account (which is linked to your AD account). You can log into it here by selecting "Florida International University Single Sign On".
    • The first time you do this, it MUST be in-person or over-the phone with the Office of Parking and Transportation as they can do a better job explaining the process. There location and contact info is below:
